Can strategy games really work on a phone?

Strategy is the genre I was most sure couldn't survive on mobile. Tiny screen, imprecise fingers, no room for detail. Playing Iron Meridian changed my mind about all three.

The trick great mobile strategy uses is layering. Instead of cramming everything on screen, they let you zoom between a big-picture map and a close-up view, so you never feel like you're squinting at a chessboard through a keyhole.

Precision matters more than in any other genre. When one misplaced order can cost an hour, the drag-and-drop and tap targets have to be forgiving. The good games spend real effort here, and you can feel it.

If you've written off the genre on mobile, try one that leans into pausing. Turn a long match into a series of small decisions across your day and it suddenly fits the platform beautifully.
